Frequently asked questions
Useful answers before we begin.
A clearer view of enquiries, scope, collaboration and delivery—so the first conversation can focus on what matters.
01 · Starting a project
From first thought to useful next step.
You do not need a finished brief before getting in touch. Early context helps identify what should be clarified first.
When is the best time to get in touch?
Early is useful—even if the brief is still rough. A short conversation can identify missing information, likely dependencies and whether a focused feasibility step would save time later.
What should I send with an enquiry?
A location, a short description of what you hope to achieve, your current stage and any drawings, photographs or reference material you already have. A budget range and desired timescale are helpful, but they do not need to be final.
What happens after the first email?
If the project appears to be a fit, the next step is a short introductory call. Parkinson Design will then recommend a defined first stage or prepare a written scope, depending on how much is already known.
Can Parkinson Design work remotely?
Many design, visualisation and communication services can be delivered remotely. Site-specific work may require a visit, a reliable measured survey or collaboration with a local professional. The scope will make that clear.
02 · Scope and collaboration
Agree the work before it begins.
Each appointment is shaped around the project rather than a one-size-fits-all package.
How are the scope, deliverables and programme agreed?
A written proposal sets out the work to be provided, expected outputs, available information, assumptions, exclusions and an indicative programme. Dependencies and decision points are identified so the scope can be reviewed before the appointment begins.
How are fees worked out?
Fees depend on scope, complexity, available information, timescale and the level of coordination required. You will receive a written proposal before work begins. The proposal identifies the fee basis, included deliverables and any separately chargeable expenses.
How are changes and revisions managed?
The written scope identifies the review points and revisions included in the appointment. If the brief, information or requested output changes materially, the effect on programme and fees is discussed and agreed before additional work proceeds.
Can you submit planning or regulatory applications?
Requirements and protected professional roles differ by jurisdiction. Parkinson Design will confirm in writing which submission support can be provided directly and where a locally registered professional or other consultant is required. No regulated role is assumed until it is expressly agreed.
03 · Delivery
Bring the right information and people together.
Clear responsibilities and appropriately scaled tools help each decision remain useful.
Will other consultants or locally registered professionals be needed?
That depends on the location, project stage and services required. The need for surveys, engineering, cost advice, locally registered professionals or other specialist input is identified as early as the available information allows, with responsibilities confirmed in writing.
Can Parkinson Design work with existing drawings, models or another project team?
Yes, where the material is suitable for the agreed task and its source, status and limitations are understood. Existing information is reviewed at the start, and any required verification, conversion or coordination is included in the proposed scope.
Can sustainability and material choices be considered from the start?
Yes. Priorities such as retaining existing value, reducing demand, selecting durable assemblies and considering maintenance can inform the brief from the outset. Where specialist assessment or project-specific evidence is needed, that requirement is made clear.
When are visualisation or physical models useful?
They are useful when they answer a defined question: comparing options, explaining spatial relationships, coordinating information or communicating an agreed proposal. The appropriate format, level of detail and intended audience are established before production.
